The Melrose Trading Post is bringing together Los Angeles’ fashion community for the launch of Melrose Fashion Week, an event celebrating local designers, sustainable fashion and creative expression from March 15-23 at the Melrose Trading Post and venues along Melrose Avenue.

Since 1997, Melrose Trading Post has been a hub for emerging designers, vintage collectors and stylists. With Melrose Fashion Week, the community is invited to visit the trading post and experience an exciting lineup of events that spotlight fashion’s artistry and sustainability.

“Melrose Trading Post has always been a space where creativity thrives,” Melrose Trading Post co-founder Pierson Blaetz said. “Melrose Fashion Week is a natural extension of that spirit, giving our designers and stylists a new platform to showcase their work and connect with the community in an exciting way.”

The Melrose Trading Post is building momentum around the increasing popularity of local eco-conscious fashion by showcasing the designers and stylists who build their brands in the neighborhood.

“The creativity on Melrose Avenue is like nowhere else in the world,” Blaetz added. “We’re excited to bring the community together around the art of fashion.”

Melrose Fashion Week events include “To Los Angeles with Love: The Art of a Fashion Icon,” an exhibit celebrating the art of Dorothy Rice running through May 1 at 7811 Gallery, 7811 Melrose Ave.

A Community Re-Dye Workshop with Circular Fashion L.A. will be held on Sunday, March 23, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Melrose Trading Post. Learn the art of sustainable fashion by re-dyeing garments. The workshop includes a selection of a dyeable garments, or participants can bring their own. Step-by-step re-dyeing instructions, on-site application, all necessary dyes, supplies, protective equipment and take-home instructions will be provided. Tickets are $30 in person, $25 online.

Melrose Fashion Week will culminate with the Local and Sustainable Runway Show on Sunday, March 23, from 1-3 p.m. at the Melrose Trading Post. The event showcases designers and stylists who are part of the vibrant Melrose community. The runway shows will take place in the middle of the trading post’s Blue Section.

The March 23 event includes a Melrose Designers Showcase with local designers and stylists; the Los Angeles Youth Showcase featuring student designers from Sage Hills High School and stylists from Fairfax High School debuting their collections; and the Infinite Expression Memorial Runway, a tribute to Josh Lobb of Infinite Expression, with a fundraiser supporting the Josh D. Lobb Infinite Expression Award for Creativity Scholarship. Featured Designers are Shop Redemption, Rag Reserve, Eternal Return, Donamatrix, De Florencio, Sausalito Blue, Protruding Monkey, YourMomsClosett, I Am Muse + VidaKush, Cloven, Ipitemi, Chapiter and Enna Le’ Uqar. The youth designers are from the Sage Hills High School Re-Imagined Club and Fairfax High School Fashion Club.

The Melrose Trading Post is a program of the nonprofit Greenway Arts Alliance, which is dedicated to connecting communities through art, education and social entrepreneurship. The Melrose Trading Post is held every Sunday at Fairfax High School, 7850 Melrose Ave., and features more than 250 local creative small business vendors, food and live music.
