Four missed calls, including key late-game decisions, confirmed in Last Two Minute Report

SAN FRANCISCO — The NBA acknowledged Wednesday that officials made four critical officiating errors during the final minutes of the Golden State Warriors’ 121-116 play-in victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night.

In the league’s Last Two Minute Report, the NBA cited two incorrect calls and two missed infractions in the tightly contested final stretch at Chase Center, potentially impacting the game’s outcome.

One of the most significant errors occurred with 37 seconds remaining, when Warriors rookie guard Brandin Podziemski was whistled for a personal foul after appearing to block a shot by Grizzlies guard Scotty Pippen Jr. cleanly near the rim. The call resulted in two free throws for Pippen, who made one, narrowing Golden State’s lead to 117-114.

Another pivotal moment came with 7.3 seconds left and the Warriors clinging to a one-point lead. Grizzlies star Ja Morant swiped at the ball while defending Stephen Curry, leading to an out-of-bounds call in favor of Golden State. However, the league report stated the ball last touched Curry and should have been awarded to Memphis.

While those two calls drew scrutiny, the report confirmed that referees correctly assessed a five-second violation on Memphis during a sideline inbounds play with 5.4 seconds remaining. That turnover led to Curry being fouled, and he sealed the win with two free throws.

The NBA also highlighted two incorrect non-calls in the final two minutes. Warriors forward Draymond Green should have been called for a foul on Pippen with 1:29 left — a decision that would have disqualified Green from the game, as he later picked up his sixth foul with 58.6 seconds remaining.

In addition, officials missed an offensive goaltending call on Memphis center Zach Edey, who tipped in a missed shot while the ball was still in the cylinder above the rim at the 1:28 mark. The basket stood, trimming Golden State’s lead to 114-111.

Despite the controversy, the Warriors held on to earn the Western Conference’s No. 7 seed and will travel to Houston to face the Rockets in Game 1 of the first-round series on Sunday.

Memphis, meanwhile, will have another shot at playoff qualification. The Grizzlies will host the winner of Wednesday night’s Dallas Mavericks vs. Sacramento Kings matchup in a play-in game Friday, with the No. 8 seed on the line.
