British light-heavyweight boxer Ben Whittaker delivered a commanding performance in his recent rematch against Liam Cameron, securing a second-round technical knockout (TKO) victory on April 20, 2025, at the BP Pulse LIVE Arena in Birmingham. This bout served as a decisive follow-up to their controversial first encounter in October 2024, which ended in a split draw after both fighters fell out of the ring in the fifth round, leading to questions about Whittaker’s decision to withdraw due to injury.

In the rematch, Whittaker showcased his technical prowess and power from the outset. He utilized his jab effectively in the first round, causing visible damage to Cameron. Early in the second round, Whittaker landed a powerful right hand that staggered Cameron, followed by a series of punches that left Cameron unable to respond, prompting referee Howard Foster to stop the fight at 1:53 of the round.

Following his victory, Whittaker’s celebration drew criticism. He approached Cameron’s corner, leading to a tense exchange and accusations of spitting at Cameron’s trainer, Grant Smith. Whittaker denied the allegations, explaining that any perceived spitting was unintentional, attributing it to an emotional outburst during his celebration. Smith also confirmed that he did not believe Whittaker spat at him.

Sky Sports commentator Dave Coldwell labeled Whittaker’s actions as “classless,” suggesting he allowed emotions to get the best of him. However, Whittaker’s trainer, Andy Lee, defended his fighter, emphasizing the emotional toll of the previous fight and the intense scrutiny Whittaker faced in the lead-up to the rematch.

The victory was a significant emotional release for Whittaker. Footage captured him in tears in his corner post-fight, being consoled by his team. In his post-fight interview, Whittaker expressed relief and addressed the criticism he had faced, stating, “You heard everybody boo me, they portray me as a bad guy. But I work very hard and my emotions came out.”

This win improves Whittaker’s professional record to 10–0–1 and reaffirms his status as a rising star in the light-heavyweight division. With the controversy of his previous bout behind him, Whittaker can now focus on climbing the ranks and pursuing further titles in his promising boxing career.a
