In a display of strength and resilience, British tennis stars Jack Draper, Jacob Fearnley, and Cameron Norrie have made their mark on the Madrid Open, advancing to the last 32 of the prestigious tournament.

Draper, the fifth seed, took down world number 34 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory. The 23-year-old’s win was particularly impressive, given his earlier retirement in their only previous match.

Fearnley, ranked 68 in the world, staged a remarkable comeback against 19th seed Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic, winning 1-6, 6-3, 6-2. His next opponent will be former Grand Slam semi-finalist and world number three Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria, the 15th seed.

Norrie, now the world number 91, continued his good form in Madrid with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 success over 26th seed Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic. He will face Canadian lucky loser Gabriel Diallo in the next round.

Draper’s comments on his fellow Brits were particularly insightful. “Cam obviously had an injury last year so to see him coming back is great,” he said. “And Jacob, someone my age, incredible player. The British public don’t really know much about him yet but he’s going to be, I think, one of the best players in the world.”

Fearnley, meanwhile, spoke about his own journey, saying, “The more I play these big matches, these big tournaments and get used to these surroundings, the better I handle them and the better I play.”

Draper’s own performance was impressive, bouncing back from a disappointing defeat in Monte Carlo to set up a meeting with former Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini of Italy in round three.

As British tennis continues to rise, it’s clear that the future is bright for these talented young players. With their determination and skill, they’re sure to make their mark on the tennis world.
