New Security Measures Rolled Out with One UI 7 Aim to Safeguard Data in Case of Theft

Samsung is warning Galaxy users in the US and Canada to enable five new anti-theft features to protect their data in the event of theft. The company claims that phone thefts are on the rise, and it is urging users to take advantage of the security measures rolled out with the latest One UI 7 update.

According to Samsung, the new features can help users safeguard their data and maintain control, even in high-risk situations. These features, which include Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, Remote Lock, Identity Check, and Security Delay, are designed to prevent unauthorized access to a user’s device.

Theft Detection Lock, for instance, instantly locks the screen if it detects suspicious motions, such as snatching. Offline Device Lock does the same if the device remains out of network coverage for an extended period. Remote Lock allows users to lock down their device remotely, as long as they have their mobile number and can complete a quick verification step.

Identity Check, another feature, requires biometric verification when a user’s phone is in an unfamiliar location and any changes are made to sensitive security settings. The Security Delay feature, part of Identity Check, triggers a one-hour waiting period if someone tries to reset a user’s biometrics.

To enable these anti-theft features, users need to go to Settings > Security and privacy > Lost device protection > Theft protection. The features are currently available on the Galaxy S25, S24, S23, and S22 series, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, and Z Flip 5 in the US, and will be rolled out to more One UI 7-compatible devices in the future.

The advisory has also been issued for Galaxy users in the UK, and Samsung recommends checking its website for a full list of compatible devices. In addition, users can take further steps to protect their devices by keeping their software up to date, using strong passwords, and being cautious when using public Wi-Fi networks.
