Racing Community in Shock as Hollie Doyle Mourns Loss of Special Partner

Exciting moment in horse racing featuring competitors in colorful silks racing down the track.

Trueshan, one of the most popular horses in training, has suffered a fatal injury at Goodwood, leaving the racing community in shock. The nine-year-old gelding, ridden by Hollie Doyle, suffered a fracture of his left-hind pastern while galloping uphill on the far side of the track during the Group One Goodwood Cup on Tuesday.

“It’s just devastating,” Doyle said, struggling to find the words to describe the loss of her beloved partner. “He was a special, special horse, and I’m gutted. He’s been amazing for me, a star, and those memories we have together are some of my very best.”

Trueshan’s career was marked by several notable victories, including a win in the Group One Goodwood Cup in 2021 and two wins in the Group One Prix du Cadran at Longchamp. He also recorded three wins in the Long Distance Cup at Ascot and an impressive handicap performance in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle in 2022.

According to James Given, the British Horseracing Authority’s director of equine welfare, Trueshan was examined by his team before the race and showed no signs of concern. However, during the event, he suffered a mid-race injury, which left him in a situation that was not recoverable.

“The horse was immediately sedated and given pain relief while the vets examined the extent of the injury,” Given said. “Alan King, the horse’s trainer, was able to assess him with the vets, and they felt there was no option but to put him down.”

The racing community is still reeling from the news of Trueshan’s passing, and the focus now turns to the upcoming events at Goodwood. Aidan O’Brien’s colt, Scandinavia, emerged victorious in the Group One Goodwood Cup, becoming the first three-year-old to win the prize since Stradivarius in 2017.

In other racing news, Field Of Gold, a three-year-old colt trained by John and Thady Gosden, is set to compete in the Group One Sussex Stakes on Wednesday. The colt has been impressive in his career so far, including an emphatic three-and-a-half length defeat of Aidan O’Brien’s Henri Matisse in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Field Of Gold’s performance in the St James’s Palace Stakes was particularly notable, as he was ridden by none other than O’Brien’s stable jockey, Ryan Moore. Despite being ridden by a different jockey, the colt was able to showcase his impressive speed and agility, leaving many to wonder if he could be the next big star in the racing world.

In a related story, Richard Hannon’s colt, Rosallion, is also set to compete in the Group One Sussex Stakes on Wednesday. The colt, who won the St James’s Palace Stakes last year, has been impressive in his career so far, including a win in the 2000 Guineas Trial at Newmarket.

As the racing community continues to mourn the loss of Trueshan, the focus will now shift to the upcoming events at Goodwood and the talented horses competing in them. The racing community will be watching with bated breath as Field Of Gold and Rosallion take to the track in the Group One Sussex Stakes, hoping to see if they can live up to the hype and become the next big stars in the racing world.
