Strava, the popular app for active people, has announced a series of new features designed to further support its growing global community of cyclists and runners. The updates, which include a revamped Route Builder tool and enhanced training insights, are set to roll out over the next few days, further solidifying Strava’s position as a leader in the fitness technology industry.

At the heart of the updates is a significant redesign of Strava’s Route Builder tool, which will be available on mobile devices tomorrow. The revamped interface is more dynamic and user-friendly, allowing cyclists and runners to plan routes with precision and confidence. The tool is powered by billions of activities, providing users with real-time data on where fellow community members have been active. This means that users can create routes that are informed by real, human-powered activity data, giving them a more accurate and enjoyable experience.

The update also brings new features, including Enhanced Route Details, which allows users to view elevation, distance, surface type, and grade along routes, giving them a better understanding of what to expect when out on the roads, trails, or paths. This feature is particularly useful for cyclists, who need to consider factors such as road conditions and elevation gain when planning a route. Additionally, Route Adjustment enables users to add, move, or delete waypoints, such as Tappable Points of Interest, to create routes that fit their exact needs. This feature is ideal for users who want to customize their routes to include specific points of interest, such as cafes or restrooms.

In September, Strava will launch two new features: Power Skills and Training Zones. Power Skills will provide cyclists with individualized insights to train smarter and perform stronger through a visual breakdown of their all-time Power PRs across 12 notable cycling intervals. This feature is designed to help cyclists optimize their training and improve their performance by providing them with a deeper understanding of their strengths and weaknesses. The feature will also enable cyclists to overlay their last 8 weeks of best efforts against their lifetime records, providing a deeper understanding of their performances and helping them to set realistic goals.

Training Zones will remove the guesswork from training, providing cyclists and runners with easily understood insights into how much time they’re spending in each power, pace, or heart rate zone. This level of insight will help users balance effort and recovery to get in peak performance mode. The feature will also enable users to set specific training zones and track their progress over time, helping them to stay on track and achieve their goals.

The updates also include improvements to Leaderboard Integrity, which aims to protect the authentic activities of Strava’s users. The company has continued its work to detect and remove irregular, improbable, or impossible efforts, with a nearly 85% reduction in E-Bike flag reports and overall flag reports on activities year on year. This is a significant improvement, and demonstrates Strava’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its leaderboards.

“These new updates demonstrate our commitment to investing in our global community of cyclists and runners,” said Matt Salazar, Chief Product Officer at Strava. “From deeper and more analytical personalized training insights to enhanced routing and a fairer platform where competition can take place, these features now enable cyclists and runners to fully optimize every pedal stroke and stride they take in pursuit of their goals.”

The updates are part of Strava’s ongoing effort to drive innovation and enhance the user experience. The company has been investing heavily in its technology and infrastructure, and has seen significant growth as a result. With over 150 million athletes in more than 185 countries, Strava is one of the largest and most popular fitness technology companies in the world.

Overall, the new features announced by Strava are a significant improvement, and demonstrate the company’s commitment to delivering a high-quality user experience. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or just starting out, these features are designed to help you optimize your training and achieve your goals.
