William Saliba has signed a new five-year contract with Arsenal, reaffirming his commitment to the club and expressing his ambition to become one of the best defenders in the world. The 24-year-old France international, whose previous deal was set to expire in June 2027, had been linked with a potential move to Real Madrid and other top European clubs. Saliba emphasized the pivotal role Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff have played in his development, stating, “The boss is one of the best coaches in the world. He has helped me a lot, him and his staff, so I’m so happy to have them as a coach.”

Saliba joined Arsenal from Saint-Etienne in July 2019, with loan spells at Nice and Marseille before making his debut in August 2022. Since then, he has become a key figure for the Gunners, making 105 league appearances and contributing six goals and two assists. His performances have earned him recognition as one of the most promising defenders in European football.

Arteta praised Saliba’s growth, saying, “Since joining us, William has grown so much, embraced responsibility, and has created a strong connection with our supporters and everyone at the club. We know there is still so much to come from him and will continue to work together to keep improving with the clear ambition of winning major trophies.”

The announcement of Saliba’s new deal comes after Arsenal’s dramatic 2-1 victory at Newcastle United on Sunday, which moved them to second place in the Premier League, just two points behind leaders Liverpool. The win highlighted the team’s resilience and unity, with Saliba’s partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes—recently extended until 2029—playing a crucial role in the team’s defensive solidity.

Arsenal’s sporting director, Andrea Berta, praised Saliba’s development over the past three seasons, saying, “In the last three seasons, William has become an incredible defender whose composure, intelligence, and physical presence make him one of the best in the world. He will continue his development with Arsenal to reach new heights.”

Former Liverpool and Wolves defender Conor Coady, now at Wrexham, expressed his admiration for Saliba’s decision to stay at Arsenal, calling it “huge for our country.” Coady noted that Saliba’s decision to commit to the club was a relief for Arsenal, especially with the interest from top clubs like Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and others.

Saliba’s commitment solidifies his partnership with Gabriel Magalhaes, who recently extended his contract until 2029. The pair is widely regarded as one of the best central defensive partnerships in the Premier League, providing the club with a strong foundation for both defensive and set-piece threats.

With most of the key players now signed long-term, Arsenal’s focus remains on securing trophies, with Bukayo Saka the only remaining player needing to extend his deal. The new contracts signal the club’s confidence in its current squad and the belief that they can achieve the success they crave.

Saliba’s decision to stay at Arsenal not only strengthens the team’s defense but also sends a clear message to the fans and the wider football world: the Gunners are building a squad capable of competing for major honors.
