Title Fight: South Korean and Japanese Golfers Tied at the Top as Final Round Approaches

In a thrilling turn of events, South Korea’s Haeran Ryu and Japan’s Mao Saigo have emerged as co-leaders at the Chevron Championship, heading into the final round on Sunday.
Ryu, 24, made a stunning comeback in the third round with four consecutive birdies from the sixth hole, ultimately carding a 68 to move to nine under par. Her impressive performance has her tied with Saigo, who shot a 69 and parred her way home after a crucial birdie at the 13th.
The duo will face stiff competition from American Lindy Duncan, who trails by a single stroke on eight under par. China’s Yan Liu, the halfway leader, is a further stroke back on seven under par.
However, defending champion Nelly Korda’s hopes of retaining her title seem to be slipping away, as she sits nine shots back on level par after a disappointing round of 71. The American struggled with back-to-back double bogeys at the third and fourth holes, a significant setback in her bid for a second consecutive major title.
Ryu, who led by a shot heading into last year’s final round but ultimately finished fifth, has learned from her mistakes and is determined to make a stronger finish this time around. “I was just trying to make the good spots, for the easy putts, and I wanted to try to make some birdies. That was good for me,” she said.
Saigo, on the other hand, attributed her success to a combination of luck and skill, citing two chip-in birdies from outside the hole as key moments in her round.
As the players prepare for the final round, the stage is set for an electrifying finish at The Club at Carlton Woods. Will Ryu and Saigo emerge victorious, or will one of their competitors mount a stunning comeback? Only time will tell.
