Paris Saint-Germain maintained their perfect European start with a 6–0 away win, while Matheus Cunha’s late double lifted Manchester United past Roma. Barcelona and Bayern also won on Champions League Matchday 4.

Paris Saint-Germain swept aside Villarreal 6–0 on Tuesday, while Manchester United recovered from two goals down to beat Roma 3–2 in a sharply contrasting pair of Champions League victories. UEFA’s Matchday 4 report also confirmed wins for Barcelona and Bayern Munich as the league phase approached its halfway point.
Paris settle the contest in a remarkable opening spell
PSG’s official match record tells the story of an extraordinary start: João Neves scored in the ninth minute, Désiré Doué in the 12th, Senny Mayulu in the 13th and Fabián Ruiz in the 17th. Villarreal were four goals behind before they had completed a quarter of the match at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Ruiz added his second shortly after half-time, before substitute David Boly completed the scoring in the 78th minute. According to the club’s match report, Boly scored on his Champions League debut and Paris recorded their largest away victory in the competition. It was their fourth win from four league-phase games.
The result reflected pressure from several parts of the team. Five different players scored, and the decisive opening sequence combined a corner, possession recovered high up the pitch and quick finishing. In post-match comments published by PSG, Luis Enrique praised the pressing and ball recoveries while stressing that his side still had to improve and maintain its concentration.
Cunha turns United’s night around
At Old Trafford, Roma led through Matías Soulé’s 11th-minute finish and a Donyell Malen penalty six minutes later. United went into half-time trailing 2–0, with the visitors having established a position from which the home side faced a substantial recovery. The United match report records how the game then changed after the interval.
Bruno Fernandes reduced the deficit with a retaken penalty in the 58th minute. Bryan Mbeumo subsequently struck both posts with one attempt, but United had to wait until the 83rd minute for Matheus Cunha’s equaliser. Cunha scored again three minutes later, finishing after a pass from substitute Shea Lacey to complete the turnaround.
The Brazilian was then dismissed after receiving a second yellow card, leaving United to protect their lead through the closing moments. UEFA said the victory ended a nine-match winless run. It delivered an immediate change in results, although one dramatic European night cannot by itself establish that the team’s wider difficulties have been resolved.
Barcelona end Villa’s perfect start
Barcelona’s 3–0 home victory over Aston Villa was built on Lamine Yamal’s early goal and two second-half finishes by Raphinha. In the Spanish club’s account, Yamal capitalised on a misplaced pass in the seventh minute, before Raphinha struck in the 52nd and 64th. The result brought Barcelona to nine points from four matches and ended Villa’s run of three opening victories.
The scoreline did not mean Barcelona had been comfortable throughout. Joan García made several saves before the break, and Pedri cleared an effort off the line. Raphinha’s first goal gave the hosts a larger margin, while his second followed a delivery from João Cancelo. Barcelona’s stronger second half turned a contested opening period into a convincing final result, with their goalkeeper’s earlier interventions remaining central to that progression.
Bayern’s patience is rewarded in Madrid
Bayern Munich won 2–0 away to Atlético Madrid after a goalless first half. Bayern’s official report confirmed Lennart Karl’s breakthrough in the 54th minute and Konrad Laimer’s second goal in the 74th. Karl recovered the ball inside the penalty area before scoring, while Harry Kane supplied Laimer for the later finish.
The visitors had created pressure before finding the opening, with Jan Oblak making saves and Bayern threatening through several players. Their eventual two-goal margin was secured after the interval, rather than through the immediate surge seen in Villarreal. For Atlético, the defeat left the remaining league-phase fixtures carrying greater weight; for Bayern, it supplied three points from an away assignment against an experienced European opponent.
The rest of Tuesday’s results
Elsewhere, Inter won 3–0 at Feyenoord, Sporting CP beat Shakhtar Donetsk 1–0, and Galatasaray defeated Stuttgart 2–0. LASK recorded a 4–0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, while Bodø/Glimt and Lille finished goalless. The scores are listed in UEFA’s official fixtures and results.
Why the halfway position matters
Under UEFA’s league-phase format, all 36 clubs share one table and each plays eight matches. The top eight qualify directly for the round of 16, teams placed ninth to 24th enter knockout play-offs, and the bottom 12 are eliminated. Tuesday’s participants have therefore completed half their programme, with another set of Matchday 4 games still to come on Wednesday.
That structure rewards consistency across different opponents. Paris have built a strong points base, while United’s recovery has immediate value in a short league campaign. Barcelona and Bayern also strengthened their positions, but the final qualification routes remain to be decided over the remaining fixtures. The clear outcomes from Tuesday are the recorded results; a November place in the table is still a stage in the competition, rather than its conclusion.
