Love in the Time of Algorithms: How Dating Apps Are Failing Men

A recent survey conducted by AI “companion” company Joi AI has shed light on the frustrations and disappointments of men when it comes to modern dating, particularly with the rise of dating apps.

According to the survey of 2,000 men, a staggering 64% believe that dating apps have made them feel more hopeless about their chances of love and romance. Furthermore, slightly more than half of men (51%) stated that dating apps have made them question their attractiveness or self-worth.

The survey found that two-thirds of men reported that their conversations on dating apps rarely or never turn into real dates, with a mere 11% dating regularly. The rest struggle to get matches and replies, highlighting the difficulties men face in finding meaningful connections through these platforms.

Joi AI, an AI chatbot company, has a vested interest in highlighting the drawbacks of modern dating, as it pitches itself as a “judgment-free alternative to dating apps.” However, the company’s motives do not diminish the fact that men are expressing genuine concerns about the state of modern dating.

Dating Apps: A “Scam” or a “Popularity Contest”?

The survey found that 41% of men believe that dating apps are a “scam,” designed to profit from those looking for love rather than foster genuine connections. A staggering 76% are convinced that these platforms are built to keep users single and spending.

Almost half of the men surveyed (46%) insisted that dating apps will not help them find a genuine connection, while most men (55%) felt that these platforms have an unequal playing field, with men and women given unequal chances at success.

The survey concludes that modern dating has become a “popularity contest” rather than a genuine search for connection, with men feeling that only the rich and attractive have a chance to stand out.

A Call for Change

Joi AI’s survey highlights the need for a shift in the way we approach modern dating. As men express their frustrations and disappointments, it is clear that something needs to change.

In a statement, Joi AI emphasizes the importance of a judgment-free alternative to dating apps, where users can find genuine connections without the pressure, games, and ghosting that often accompany modern dating.

As the survey results make clear, men are crying out for a more authentic and equal approach to finding love and romance. It remains to be seen whether the dating app industry will take heed of these concerns and make the necessary changes to provide a more positive and meaningful experience for users.
