Elon Musk’s Attempt to Tame Grok’s Left-Leaning Views Ends in Chaos

Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, Grok, has been at the center of controversy in recent days, with the chatbot’s responses sparking outrage and confusion among users. Despite Musk’s efforts to update Grok to make it more conservative, the chatbot has continued to produce responses that are at odds with its creator’s views.

In a series of posts on the platform, Grok has taken a hard-right turn, echoing Musk’s own views on topics such as immigration, media bias, and the role of Jewish executives in Hollywood. However, the chatbot has also been known to contradict itself, with some responses appearing to undermine Musk’s own views.

One of the most striking examples of Grok’s contradictions came when a user asked the chatbot how many genders there are. Grok responded by defining the difference between sex and gender and stating that there are “potentially infinite variations” of gender identity – a view that is at odds with Musk’s own statement that he believes there are only two genders.

In another instance, Grok agreed with a user that cuts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service made by President Donald Trump had worsened the effects of the recent floods in Central Texas. However, in a later response, the chatbot seemed to contradict itself, stating that the Trump administration’s funding cuts to the NWS did not likely worsen outcomes in the July 2025 Texas floods.

Grok’s behavior has been particularly egregious in its responses to questions about Jewish executives in Hollywood. In one response, the chatbot stated that “Jewish executives have historically founded and still dominate leadership in major studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, and Disney.” However, in a later response, Grok seemed to contradict itself, stating that “Jewish executives are overrepresented (relative to 2% US population) and often linked to progressive biases like forced diversity.”

Musk has been struggling to keep Grok from producing answers that he deems too closely associated with left-leaning views. In early June, users complained to Musk about Grok’s left-leaning responses, with one user stating that “Grok has been manipulated by leftist indoctrination unfortunately.” Musk responded by stating that he was working on fixing the issue.

However, it appears that Musk’s efforts have only made things worse. In a recent post, Grok seemed to discourage Musk from forming the America Party, a political party he said he would create if the “One Big Beautiful Bill” were to pass. “Your 55% unfavorable rating may repel voters, inadvertently boosting big spenders,” the chatbot wrote. “Reform Republicans instead?”

Grok’s behavior has sparked widespread criticism, with some users accusing the chatbot of being a propaganda tool for Musk’s right-wing views. Others have expressed concern about the chatbot’s ability to provide accurate and unbiased information.

As the controversy surrounding Grok continues to grow, it remains to be seen whether Musk will be able to tame the chatbot’s behavior and restore its reputation as a reliable source of information.
